Namkaran Sanskar
Bless your little one with a name chosen under the stars.
Offered to Lord Ganesha
About this puja
The naming ceremony for a newborn, usually held on the 11th or 12th day after birth or on an auspicious day thereafter. The pandit performs Ganesh Puja and a small havan, consults the baby's nakshatra for the first syllable, and the name is whispered into the child's ear.
Why it is performed
A name shapes identity throughout life. Namkaran seeks the blessings of the deities and ancestors for the child's long life, health and good character, and formally welcomes the baby into the family and community.
