Mundan Sanskar

A blessed first haircut for your child's healthy growth.

Offered to Lord Ganesha

About this puja

Mundan (Chudakarana) is the ceremonial first shaving of a child's head, usually performed in the first, third or fifth year. The pandit performs Ganesh Puja and a havan, applies a paste of haldi and curd, and the hair is offered with prayers.

Why it is performed

The sanskar symbolises freeing the child from impurities carried from past births and is believed to support healthy growth of hair and mind. It is a joyous family milestone seeking long life for the child.
