Mahamrityunjay Jaap
The great life-giving mantra of Lord Shiva, chanted with devotion.
Offered to Lord Shiva (Tryambakeshwar)
About this puja
Recitation of the Mahamrityunjay mantra from the Rigveda, performed with a sankalp in the devotee's name. A single-session jaap of 1,008 or 11,000 repetitions concludes with a havan; larger counts such as 1,25,000 are completed over several days.
Why it is performed
Revered as the moksha mantra, it is chanted for recovery from illness, protection from untimely death and fear, and spiritual strength in difficult times. Its benefits flow to the person named in the sankalp, wherever they are.
