About this puja
Recitation of the 700 verses of the Durga Saptashati (Devi Mahatmya) from the Markandeya Purana, with Kavach, Argala and Keelak stotras. It is performed with kalash sthapana and concludes with a havan and kanya pujan where desired.
Why it is performed
The text celebrates the Devi's victory over Mahishasura, Shumbha and Nishumbha, symbolising the triumph of good over inner and outer negativity. It is recited during Navratri and in times of crisis for protection, strength and prosperity.
